Arsenal’s summer business saw French striker Alexandre Lacazette arrive for a world-record fee, but despite persistent rumours, the other French striker on the club’s books, Olivier Giroud, has not left the club.

Lacazette is the clear first-choice, despite Giroud being the incumbent central striker, which leads to the question: which one is the better option for Arsene Wenger?

At first glance, the two Frenchmen seem quite different. Lacazette has superior pace and is more comfortable drifting out wide, while Giroud is stronger in the air and allows other attackers to play around him.

However, a closer look reveals Lacazette and Giroud are actually quite similar despite their varied playing styles. Their strike-rates and the types of goals they score aren’t too different.
