Effectiveness

After a rather disappointing outing in his side’s 2-1 against Leicester City on Saturday, De Bruyne was at his best against West Brom. The Belgian inspired City to a comfortable 3-1 win that virtually wraps up a Champions League spot for Guradiola’s men.

De Bruyne was at the heart of City’s attack, dropping into pockets of space to pick out passes while also dashing forward when the chance presented itself.

The attacking midfielder made a clever run forward before picking out Jesus for the opener and scored the second. His set-piece delivery was top-notch as well.

Key moments

27th min: De Bruyne takes the ball in his stride as he bursts into the penalty box in behind West Brom’s defence. He has the presence of mind to play the ball across goal rather than cut it back, allowing Jesus an easy tap-in from point-blank range.

29th min: The Belgian then wrapped up the game two minutes later. Sergio Aguero did well to drive forward and although Jesus couldn’t control his pass, the loose ball falls for De Bruyne outside the box. He shows great composure to side-foot the ball into the back of the net with precision on the bounce.

49th min: De Bruyne drills in a superb low cross into the middle which Ben Foster beats away but only in front of his goal. No blue shirts were on hand to take advantage though.

Our verdict

City absolutely dominated proceedings and a large part of that was down to De Bruyne who had an outstanding game. The 25-year-old registered his 16th assist in the Premier League this season, more than any City player has managed in a single campaign.
