Whenever given space and time to operate, Fabregas has shown that he can be both lethal and penetrative in terms of his through balls, passes, assists and long balls.

And in the Blues’ win over Southampton, Fabregas went past his former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard in terms of most assists in the Premier League era.

Fabregas’ lobbed ball-in for Diego Costa’s first goal of the night, was his 103rd assist in the Premier League, now he’s only behind former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs (162), as OptaJoe’s Stat (below) shows.

Well, perhaps if former Arsenal man Fabregas hadn’t gone back to Barcelona he would have been No1. Who knows.
