STATS: Why Manchester United right-back Antonio Valencia has had a great Premier League season under Jose Mourinho

Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia recently extended his contract at the club and has had an excellent season ever since at Old Trafford.

A player with an immense work rate, Valencia, despite being in his 30s now, can still run up and down the pitch with ease. And he’s pacy as well.

It was his never-ending bundle of energy that perhaps helped him to keep pressing against Middlesbrough right until the end.

To his delight, goalkeeper Victor Valdes had a horrendous slip following which Valencia scored an easy tap-in.

But Valencia also has this remarkable ability to provide superb crosses into the box, as this stat from our friends at WhoScored points out.

As you can see, he has made more accurate crosses from open play (39) than any other player in the Premier League this season.

Well, looks like Valencia is pretty high-on-confidence, just how Jose would like it to be.
