Zinedine Zidane‘s decision to leave Real Madrid after winning the Champions League title for a third consecutive time came as a surprise to many. And midfielder Isco has admitted he was one of them.

The 26-year old has revealed that he was shocked by the timing of Zidane’s exit announcement, coming soon after the win against Liverpool in the final in Kiev.

“I was surprised by Zidane[‘s decision],” he told reporters at Spain’s pre-World Cup training camp.

“It was something we didn’t expect and it was sudden.

The Spaniard is now awaiting for the club to name their next manager.

“He has made his decision and we are very proud to have won three Champions League titles with him. Now the club has to decide who comes next.”

However, Isco is hoping that star man Cristiano Ronaldo continues playing for Los Blancos and doesn’t head towards the exit door like Zidane.

“[Ronaldo’s situation] is similar to Zidane’s,” he said.

“It is Cristiano who has to make the decision to continue, whether he wants to or not. It is in his hands. I hope he stays because he gives us a lot.”
