Barcelona hope young defender Ronald Araujo has not picked up a serious problem after injury forced him off during Uruguay’s 3-0 defeat to Argentina.

Araujo, 22, was taken off in the 73rd minute on Sunday. The centre-back suffered a blow to the leg and was unable to continue.

Ice was placed onto the affected area and his employers will wish that he just suffered bruising, rather than a muscular complaint. Uruguay continue their World Cup 2022 qualification campaign against Brazil on Thursday.

Barcelona resume in La Liga on Sunday against Valencia. They currently sit ninth, albeit with a game in hand.
