  • First half goals from Kevin Gameiro and Rodrigo Moreno were rough to give Valencia a thrilling Copa del Rey final victory over Barcelona on Saturday night.

Lionel Messi pulled one back to set up a grandstand finish, but Valencia were just able to hold on as Barça missed out on the chance to claim a domestic double.

Find out who shone and which players stank with our full player ratings here.

    BARCELONA STARTING XI

Cillessen 5. Looked jittery and uncertain on what was probably his last appearance, bringing his Barca career to a sad ending.

Semedo 4. Caught out of position for the opener and continued to struggle before being replaced at half-time.

Pique 6. Made a goalline clearance to deny Rodrigo and did his best to marshal an often exposed defence.

Lenglet 5. Early error nearly gifted an opener and often looked vulnerable against Valencia’s pace. His header led to Barça’s goal.

Alba 5. Beaten for pace by Soler in the build-up to the second, and unable to exert his usual attacking impact.

Rakitic 5. Came close with a deflected strike just before half-time but was largely ineffective and replaced near the end.

Busquets 5. Decent on the ball but really struggled without it, regularly overrun and brushed aside in a worryingly familiar tale.

Arthur 4. Struggled to stay with the pace of the game on his return from injury and was taken off at the break.

Roberto 5. Started on the right wing but offered little there. Also laboured at full-back in the second half.

Coutinho 5. Offered next to nothing in the first half. Better after the break but probably not enough to rescue his future at the club.

Messi 8. Carried the attack and netted from close range as well as coming close on several occasions including a brilliant effort against the post.

    SUBS

Malcom 7. Came on at half-time and immediately added pace and penetration down the right wing. Should have started.

Vidal 6. Another interval change, adopting an advanced midfield role to provide more attacking presence around the box.

Alena 6. Came on for Rakitic as Barça chased a late leveller. Busy and progressive during his brief time on the pitch.

    VALENCIA STARTING XI

Domenech 7. Made a great flying save from Messi just before the break and nearly kept out Barca’s goal with a stop from Lenglet.

Wass 7. Did a good defensive job against Coutinho and showed versatility by moving from right back to the left of midfield near the end.

Garay 8. Very solid display in the centre of defence, making a string a key clearances and interceptions around the box.

Paulista 9. A rock at the back and played a great pass in build-up to the first goal. Focused and determined in the latter stages.

Gaya 7. Great run and pass for the first goal. Hands full with Malcom after the break but stuck to the task.

Soler 7. Surged down the right to set up the second goal with a great cross. Mainly busied by defensive tasks after that.

Parejo 8. Majestic in midfield, capping an outstanding season with a classy display before limping off after an hour.

Coquelin 9. Tigerish anticipation and solid use of the ball, showing the kind of bite and workrate Barca badly missed.

Guedes 5. Largely quiet but fizzed a long-range strike just wide early in the second half. Missed two glorious chances in stoppage time.

Rodrigo 7. Came close in the opening stages before netting the second. Worked tirelessly to help out defensively.

Gameiro 7. Fine finish for the opener and his pace was a constant threat, always looking to stretch the field and push Barca back.

    SUBS

Kondogbia 5. Came into the midfield to replace injured skipper Parejo, but struggled with the pace of the action.

Piccini 6. Introduced at right-back for the last 20 minutes to shore up the defence and helped quieten the threat of Alba.

Diakhaby 6. Came in as a third central defender for the dying minutes and made some clearances inside the box.
