Barcelona-bound Frenkie de Jong waved goodbye to the Ajax fans after his last game at Johan Cruyff Arena.

The Dutchman admitted that he will be joining the Catalan side with great joy after a wonderful season with Ajax.

A 4-1 win over Utrecht in the Eredivisie means that Ajax have all but confirmed their domestic double. Only a miracle where Ajax lose and PSV Eindhoven overcome a goal difference of +14 can prevent De Jong from lifting the league title this season.

Although they were subject to a last-minute heartbreak against Tottenham in the semi-final of the Champions League, the 21-year-old is happy with how the campaign panned out for his team.

“It’s been wonderful, I go to Barcelona with great joy,” De Jong said, according to Marca.

“It’s been a fantastic season, although I would have liked to have said goodbye with three titles, but it wasn’t to be.

“I watched the match between Liverpool and Barcelona. I don’t know if they need me; had they been in the final, they could have won the treble.”
