Jordi Alba believes losing La Liga would be very ‘foolish’ of Barcelona

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba is confident the La Liga title is already won and that the Catalan giants would be foolish to throw it away given their massive lead at the top of the table.

Atletico Madrid succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Athletic Bilbao and hence dropped three vital points and failed to keep up with the Blaugrana last weekend. Ernesto Valverde’s men capitalised on this by defeating Real Betis 4-1 and extending their lead at the top of the La Liga table to 10 points.

Although there are still points to be won, the Spanish left-back believes that it would be very “foolish” for Barcelona to slip up now.

“I think losing this La Liga (title) would be very foolish with the points advantage we have,” Alba told the ‘Vamos’ show on Movistar Plus, as cited by Marca.

“But there are still many points [available] and we have to continue.”

The 30-year-old recently extended his contract and is now tied to the club until 2024.

“The club wanted me to stay and so did I,” said Alba. “It is the club of my life and, although late, everything was done in the best possible way. We are all very happy.”
