Highly rated American youngster Richard Ledezma rejected Barcelona before he signed for PSV Eindhoven, according to his father Jorge Ledezma.

The teenager was heavily linked to a move to the Spanish giants last year, but signed for the Dutch club in December.

“Barcelona held an interest and there was a firm offer,” Jorge Ledezma explained to Marca Claro.

“Richard was very excited about a proposal that I was told directly by a leading scout, but in the end, we decided against the move.”

Jorge believed that opportunities would be scarce for his son at such a big club and instead decided to opt for a club where the player can get enough opportunities and grow.

“The best place for Richard’s development was at PSV, where we believe he will enjoy greater opportunities.”

The 18-year-old played five games for Real Monarchs and is yet to start for PSV Eindhoven.
