Despite losing 2-0 to Barcelona, Girona put up a valiant fight and could probably have churned out a result if not for some Lionel Messi magic.

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba acknowledged his rival’s efforts in the Catalan Derby on Sunday night and praised their brand of football.

“I think they caused us even more problems with 10 men than with 11,” the Catalan said to start off a post-match interview with BeIN Sports.

“They’re a really good team. For me, they play some of the best football in the division.

“It’s always hard to win here. This win strengthens us a lot.”

“I repeat that this is a team that makes it tough for anyone.

“They knocked Atletico Madrid out of the Copa del Rey and are having a great season.”

Barcelona resume their cup journey on Wednesday as they attempt to overcome the 2-0 deficit against Sevilla.

A home game against Valencia awaits them on the weekend in their quest for another league title.
