Barcelona‘s injury crisis deepened on Sunday as Ousmane Dembele was forced off the pitch in the 69th minute with an ankle injury that could keep him out for four games.

The injury was initially thought to be a sprain but has since been diagnosed as a tear in his left ankle.

Dembele’s short Barcelona career has been riddled with injuries, with the latest one coming at an especially inopportune time as the Frenchman had seemingly overcome his earlier fitness issues and was enjoying his best run of form in a Barcelona shirt.

The 21-year-old scored his 17th goal of the season in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Leganes.

Barcelona have seen several of their players miss time this campaign due to injury, especially in defence where centre-backs Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen have both been long-term absentees, while star striker Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi also missed time earlier in the year.
