Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has cleared the air regarding rumours concerning the futures of head coach Ernesto Valverde and left-back Jordi Alba by announcing that both will sign new deals to remain in Catalonia.

Talk about whether the duo would renew their contracts has been making the rounds, but Bartomeu said Blaugrana fans can rest easy.

Barca coach Valverde recently said he is unsure if he will be the coach next season. The Basque coach’s contract runs out this summer.

However, Bartomeu announced that Valverde will remain in charge next season too.

“We have no doubt that Valverde will be the coach for this season and next. He is a coach that we trust a lot, he’s intelligent and he knows the game we want to play,” he said.

The Camp Nou club are also working on a five-year deal to tie down Spanish international Alba.

“Of course, he will continue at Barcelona,” Bartomeu told Sport. “We are already working with him for a long renewal for the next five years.”
