Barcelona star Lionel Messi was awarded his fifth Golden Boot trophy on Tuesday for being the top goalscorer across Europe last season, with 34 goals to his name.

MARCA director Juan Ignacio Gallardo handed the Argentine the trophy and Messi was his usual, humble self with the comments that followed.

“I did not expect all of this when I started,” said Messi.

“My dream was to be a professional, to be able to succeed in football.”

Like always, Messi attributed his success to his teammates, who in his opinion, played a vital role in ensuring that he scored so many goals.

“I enjoy the work, the effort and, above all, the teammates,” he added when asked about what he likes about football.

“I am in the best team in the world, I am next to the best in the world in their positions and that makes everything easier [when it comes to] winning these awards.”
