Barcelona’s hunt for emergency centre-back cover has seen them consider a January swoop for Manchester City veteran Vincent Kompany, according to reports.

The La Liga champions look set to be without France superstar Samuel Umtiti for several months because of a recurring knee problem. Belgium’s Thomas Vermaelen has also been absent for several weeks because of a hamstring issue.

The Daily Mirror have stated that if Barca decide to go for experienced cover in the winter transfer market, then Kompany will be of interest.

Kompany has made 339 appearances for the Blues since his arrival from Hamburg in 2008. He has, however, only started four Premier League matches this term because of ex-Barca boss Pep Guardiola’s preference for a John Stones-Aymeric Laporte axis.
