Former Barcelona head coach Louis van Gaal tells club what to do amid Neymar links

Outspoken former Barcelona boss Louis van Gaal has insisted it would be a mistake if his former club re-sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.

Neymar, 26, left the Catalans in August 2017 for a world-record €222 million fee. Rumours, however, have grown that he has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Parc des Princes next summer.

This has led to obvious links to Barca, a scenario that Van Gaal – who twice led them from 1997-2000 and 2002-03 – rejects.

“I do not think it’s good for Barca,” the 67-year-old told La Porteria de Beteve. “It is my opinion.

“Neymar is still a young player in development. He has to learn to play as a team player.

“It is too individualistic. Therefore, they have to be vigilant if they want to recover.”

Neymar scored 105 times in 186 appearances for Barca from 2013-17.
