Luis Suarez says Barcelona must ‘self-evaluate’ after Rayo Vallecano scare

Luis Suarez admitted an over-confident Barcelona must ‘self-evaluate’ after nearly embarrassing themselves in a come-from-behind victory against La Liga strugglers Rayo Vallecano.

The Uruguayan opened the scoring but a valiant Vallecano – who took more shots and made more dribbles than Barca – roared back through Jose Pozo.

Alvaro Garcia’s goal just before the hour had the hosts set for victory, only for super sub Ousmane Dembele to level things up before Suarez netted a dramatic winner.

La Liga leaders Barca headed into the fixture fresh off their 5-1 El Clasico thumping of Real Madrid, and Suarez concedes they need to get their house back in order ahead of the Champions League trip to Inter Milan.

“It may be that there was an excess of confidence,” Suarez said after the game.

“We also have to give credit to the opponent, who are in need of points.

“The important thing was that we turned it around and got the three points, now we have to self-evaluate.”

Suarez remained in sparkling form despite the absence of the injured Lionel Messi, and has now racked up six goals and three assists in his last six games.

“You try to help the team to win points,” he added.

“It was just one of those nights when it worked out and I scored the goals to help the team.”
