Ernesto Valverde considers 4-4-2 return to help out Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele

Ernesto Valverde is apparently considering returning to a 4-4-2 formation in a bid to improve his Barcelona team’s stuttering form.

The Barca boss has plenty to think about after a couple of poor results including a 2-1 defeat at bottom club Leganes in the week, as well as some tough-looking fixtures ahead against Athletic Bilbao, Tottenham and Valencia.

Marca claim Valverde could revisit the formation he deployed to help the Catalans win the La Liga and Copa del Rey double last season.

However, the use of it wasn’t completely popular with supporters who wanted to see Barca playing 4-3-3.

The team have reverted to that formation this season but, so far, it’s not really quite worked out and the players don’t look that comfortable.

After drawing with Girona and losing to Leganes the pressure is on this weekend to return to winning ways against Athletic.

Marca say Valverde is considering playing 4-4-2 to help out Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele and try to get the best out of the young Frenchman.
