5PM – Barcelona defenders in CIES Observatory list

The CIES Football Observatory has released its analysis of the summer transfer window, determining which players were the best value and which ones commanded the most overvalued transfer fees.

Barcelona came out looking well in both lists, with Clement Lenglet in the top five for best value-for-money deals. Meanwhile, they extracted extra value from Everton in the sale of Clement Lenglet.

Ivan Rakitic agrees that club teammate Lionel Messi is the best player in the world, but says his international colleague Luka Modric was a better player in 2017-18.

1PM – Barcelona sign new French scout

beIN presenter Jerome Bigot has been hired as a scout, specialising in French football.

The hiring comes as a recommendation from sporting director Eric Abidal, who worked with Bigot at the network and was impressed with his knowledge of French football.

Barcelona are looking to find more players such as Ousmane Dembele, who joined the club last season on a €105million deal. Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet are the other French players currently in Barca’s squad.

12PM – Carlos Tevez compares Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Carlos Tevez is one of the few players who have played with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and he’s revealed some telling details about both players.

The Argentine said he rarely ever say Messi training to master any of his skills, or in the gym – though the Barcelona star did practice penalties.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo was always the first person into training at Manchester United, no matter how early Tevez showed up to try to beat his teammate.
