La Liga champions Barcelona could extend Samuel Umtiti‘s contract by next week.

According to reports in France, the 24-year-old’s lawyers will be in Barcelona next week to ratify the deal.

Umtiti’s current contract runs until 2021, but the French international wants to extend for a further two years and increase his current release clause which stands at just €60m.

The former Lyon star has formed a solid defensive partnership with Gerard Pique at the centre of the Barcelona defence and the Catalan giants believe it will tough for them to find a replacement.

“It’s clear that I want to renew at Barca and I hope to be in the team next season.”

“I’m at a club that has helped me realise my dream. I have a contract and for me to go they will have to kick me out, I will not decide to leave,” Umtiti told L’Equipe.
