UAE forward Ahmed Khalil’s effort against Iraq on Tuesday night took him to 15 goals in 13 World Cup 2018 qualification matches, making him the man to fear across the region.

He got the ball rolling against Iraq in what was a must-win encounter for The Whites, Khalil smashing home a thunderous volley via the crossbar.

OCTOBER 6, 2016 – UAE 3-1 Thailand

A tired, stretched Thailand were picked apart by Khalil, Ali Mabkhout and Omar Abdulrahman with a 93rd minute raid that added some gloss to the scoreline.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2016 – Japan 1-2 UAE

The reigning AFC Asian Player of the Year levelled things with a fine free-kick, then chipped in a nonchalant ‘Panenka’ penalty.

MARCH 24, 2016 – UAE 2-0 Palestine

The nerves on a fretful night in Abu Dhabi were eased as Khalil converted a 59th-minute penalty to double the Whites lead in this must-win, second round clash.

NOVEMBER 17, 2015 – Malaysia 1-2 UAE

Khalil danced round the goalkeeper to secure all three points from a surprisingly-tricky test against struggling opponents.

NOVEMBER 12, 2015 – UAE 8-0 Timor-Leste

A relentless performance saw four goals scored against weakened O Sol Nascente. Only one of his predatory quartet came from the spot.

OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Saudi Arabia 2-1 UAE

On a dispiriting night for coach Mahdi Ali’s men, Khalil’s thunderous set-piece from 30 yards was the only moment of quality.

SEPTEMBER 3, 2015 – UAE 10-0 Malaysia

His first quartet of the campaign came in Abu Dhabi. Khalil even managed to score from an opposition kick-off to complete the rout.
