Al Jazira caretaker boss Ali Al Junaibi believed drawing the best out of all areas of an appallingly-mismanaged squad was key to his winning start.

The Pride of Abu Dhabi enjoyed a positive beginning to life in the top flight without the sacked Abel Braga, thrashing Emirates Club 4-0 courtesy of Ali Mabkhout’s fine brace plus Thiago Neves and Sultan Al Shamsi’s efforts.

The result carried the crisis club up to ninth as a talented team tipped to challenge for the title finally put in a stellar performance.

“It was an important win,” the usual Under-21 boss said. “We needed it and the players did a great job on the night.

“We played better by balancing the three lines; at the back, middle and front. The result would certainly motivate the players.

“It is my first league win as a coach and hopefully looking forward to the next game to achieve the same result. What we achieved tonight was a collective effort, with inputs from the players and the management.”

There was opposite emotions from the visitors, who failed to make any impression after their long trip to the capital from Ras Al Khaimah.

The Falcons have sunk down the standings in the last month, a five-match winless run in all competitions seeing them sucked towards the relegation zone and exit the Arabian Gulf Cup at the group stage.

Boss Paulo Comelli hoped to find a solution to his problems during the winter transfer window, which opens on December 31.

He said: “We started the first half in a good way and created a couple of chances but Jazira scored first to get a good hold on the match.

“We can only keep working hard with the limited resources we have. We’ll try to bring in some new players during the transfer window.”
