Minus eight UAE internationals and suspended Brazilian centre midfielder Fellipe Bastos, the under-strength hosts at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium fell to a loss which means they cannot finish in the top two and secure semi-final progression.

Midfielder Tareq Ahmed shot high into the goal on 52 minutes to convert from the penalty spot. The newly-promoted side then went 3-0 ahead as Ibrahim found a close-range finish and fired in from distance, striker Saeed Al Katheeri curling in an 82nd-minute consolation in response.

Meanwhile, Bani Yas picked up their first Group A points in emphatic style as they crushed Emirates Club 4-0.

Luis Garcia’s men were inspired by two-goal Suhail Ahmed Alnoobi, who opened the scoring with a chip and followed in with the second. Striker Joaquin Larrivey then tapped in and Saleh Almenhali rounded up the win in injury time.

Holders Al Nasr must play a waiting game after Jires Kembo Ekoko’s solitary strike earned a 1-0 win against Al Shaab.

The Blue Wave have 10 points from their six Group A matches, but have played two more than pace-setters Al Ahli and Al Wasl who are both on eight points.
