Sow, 29, agreed a four-year deal this month after he was bought from Fenerbahce for €17 million (Dh70m).

The Senegal forward – who made his debut during Monday’s 1-1 Arabian Gulf Cup-draw at Al Shaab – joins a stellar squad determined to repeat the treble success of 2013-14, rather than last term’s domestic disappointment.

Speaking at the announcement the Red Knights and Gargash Enterprises will raffle two brand-new Mercedes-Benz cars at each of the club’s remaining 12 top-flight home games, the ex-Lille star enthused about his new surroundings.

He said: “I’ve been very, very impressed. The club has quality, the management has quality and the coach has too. They have a lot of big players here and I’m very happy.

“I know there have been big players in Al Ahli before but I’m only thinking about myself. I want to achieve good results, to win trophies and become champions.”

The drive from Ahli is designed to attract more supporters to Rashid Stadium. The club only averaged 2,947 per league match in 2014/15.

Beginning with September 20’s fixture against Al Dhafra, a club membership card must be scanned at an electronic gate no later than 10 minutes after kick-off. The draw will be made after the final whistle, with only those who stay until the end eligible.

“When I played in the Arabian Gulf Cup I was shocked because there were only 2,000 or 3,000 fans in the stadium,” Sow said. “In Fenerbahce, we had 40,000 or 50,000. I already have support from fans here – it’s a pleasure for me.”

Sow played all 90 minutes against the Commandos, an acrobatic overhead kick the highlight. He is ineligible for Wednesday’s AFC Champions quarter-final, second leg against Naft Tehran, but should start the Dhafra game.

He said: “I’ve already played in the Arabian Gulf Cup and am ready for the next match. My problem now is the temperature, it’s too hot but I am trying to acclimatise.”
