Confident Shajrah new boy Maicosuel has set himself the ambitious goal of becoming the Arabian Gulf League’s standout performer.

Maicosuel, 29, has joined on a one-year loan from Atletico Mineiro with an option to make the switch permanent.

The Brazilian joins an enclave of his countrymen, boss Paulo Bonamigo overseeing Palestinian-qualified centre-back Mauricio Ramos, deadly striker Wanderley plus fellow fresh face and midfielder Renato Caja.

The King struggled last term, finishing one spot outside the relegation zone in 12th. Despite his new club’s lowly standing, former Udinese star Maicosuel was confident about a stellar debut campaign.

“I wish to win the award for being the best player in the Arabian Gulf League,” he said at his unveiling yesterday prior to Friday’s opener at Al Shabab.

“It is a new competition and a great challenge for me. This is a goal I cannot achieve without the high level of my colleagues. In general, I found a wonderful group of players and they have exceeded my expectations.

“I wish to meet the expectations of all the supporters. I chose Sharjah because I got a great welcome from them and received great respect in the negotiation phase.”

Caja, 30, was convinced Sharjah now possess the right mixture to enjoy a much-improved performance in 2015/16.

He said: “Although there were many professional offers, I wanted to come to Sharjah. I believe the current combination of the team is very promising, because of the presence of experienced players and young players.”
