The potential to enjoy further success with Al Nasr convinced Luis Jimenez to continue his successful stay in the Arabian Gulf League.

Jimenez, 31, switched across Dubai to the Blue Wave this summer on a two-year contract after four trophy-laden campaigns at Al Ahli. He got a first taste of competitive action with his new side on Saturday, losing the season-opening Arabian Gulf Super Cup 4-2 to Al Ain.

The Chile playmaker turned down overtures from Qatar giants Al Rayyan to remain in the UAE, believing the President’s Cup and Arabian Gulf Cup holders remain “hungry for success” in 2015/16.

He said: “I’m happy because I know the club well and I have a very nice impression. They are a very serious club and they are hungry for success. I like that. I also know a lot of players, so I feel at home.

“After four years in the Arabian Gulf League, it is nice to continue with another club. I want to win with another club.”

The Blue Wave are in the process of completely switching their four-player foreign quota. Jimenez, winger Jonathan Pitroipa and striker Nilmar have already arrived, Al Ain soon to sign off on a ¤1.5 million (Dh6.1m) move for forward Jires Kembo Ekoko.

Jimenez was confident the revamped unit would improve on their Super Cup showing once they are fully integrated.

He said: “We didn’t have all our players for training in the build-up. Jonathan Pitroipa arrived just a few weeks ago, Nilmar as well.

“So, it was difficult. But I feel we were in the game once we made it 1-1. In football, we have to be in the game all through. We are a young team and we have lot of margin for improvement.”
