Bani Yas’ plans to improve the depth of their squad continued yesterday as they announced a trio of Emirati signings, including a return for former defender Thamer Mohammed.

The Sky Blues finished eighth last term during coach Luis Garcia’s opening campaign and an improvement in 2015/16 is required.

A shake up of their four-player foreign quota is already under way, ADO Den Haag striker Michiel Kramer expected to imminently join already-recruited Australia midfielder Mark Milligan.

They have also cast their eye to the domestic market, inexperienced goalkeepers Mohammed Al Naqbi, 22, from Al Shabab and Adel Fadaq, 23, from Al Wahda joining returning old boy Mohammed who has been bought from Al Wasl.

“Thamer Mohammed moved from the ranks of Al Wasl to Bani Yas and returns two years since moving to Al Ahli,” they tweeted.

“Officially, Fadaq joins from Al Wahda and Mohammed Al Naqbi from the ranks of Al Shabab for a year – subject to renewal.” Mohammed, 30, initially left the Abu Dhabi-outfit for Al Ahli in February 2014 when in the midst of a three-month ban after he mistakenly took an anti-obesity supplement that contained a banned substance. He featured sporadically for the Red Knights, joining Al Wasl last summer.

Mohammed should help fill the void in defence left by released Spanish centre-back Angel Dealbert.
