Rumours had stated the 24-year-old could be on his way to the Crescent, possibly as part of a transaction to bring attacking midfielder Thiago Neves to Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.

But the Pride of Abu Dhabi insisted they had no plans to part with the 2015 Asian Cup’s top scorer, pointing to the three remaining years on his current contract.

“Al Jazira confirms the news spread through the media and social networking sites about striker Ali Mabkhout and allegations about his move is incorrect and confirms that the player’s contract continues for another three years,” a statement read.

Mabkhout has developed into a standout performer, his 16 top-flight goals last term the highest recorded by an Emirati.

Jazira instead plan to team him with Roma winger Gervinho, who is believed to be closing on a move to the capital.
