Al Nasr loanee Pablo Hernandez has set his sights on securing both AFC Champions League qualification through a President’s Cup triumph and ensuring he earns a permanent deal to enjoy the fruits of his labour next season.

Hernandez, 30, joined on a temporary basis in January from Qatar’s Al Arabi until the end of the 2014/15 campaign. An option to buy is in the contract, the winger striving to see this exercised.

The former Valencia, Swansea City and Spain star played a defining role in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph against President’s Cup holders Al Ain, setting up striker Ibrahima Toure on 89 minutes to fire the Blue Wave into a semi-final against neighbours Al Shabab next weekend.

Hernandez declared his desire to see Ivan Jovanovic’s troops push on and secure a double after January’s Arabian Gulf Cup success, which would see fourth-placed Arabian Gulf League outfit Al Wahda drop out of Asia’s elite club tournament.

He said: “Sometimes, the league is more difficult as there are too many games. It is a long competition, we could only finish in fifth.

“Now, it is a good opportunity for us [in the President’s Cup]. We know if we win this, we go into the AFC Champions League. “This is very, very important for the club. It is a huge chance for us.

“I think next year, this will be very good for the club. Hopefully, we can fight for the league next year. Now, we think of the President’s Cup.”

Hernandez has notched three goals and four assists in 12 AGL appearances for Nasr. “I want to be here,” the four-times capped La Roja player said.

“After we finish the season, I will talk with the club. I know the club is happy [with me] and I am happy,” he added.
