Attacking midfielder Brett Holman has rejected thoughts that the Arabian Gulf Cup is Al Nasr’s best chance at silverware, insisting they “can have a good run at any of the trophies”.

The Blue Wave dropped points for the first time in Monday night’s goalless Group A draw against Al Wasl, though the result still guaranteed them top spot and progression to next week’s semi-finals.

Ivan Jovanovic’s men made a steady start in the Arabian Gulf League though dropped off the pace prior to the international break, with the GCC Club Cup defence and President’s Cup yet to start.

“This was the only draw in five games, you can say it is mission accomplished for now,” the 63-times-capped former Australia international said. “We targeted to make the semi-finals, and now you can win two games and you get a trophy. We are only six points off the top in the Arabian Gulf League.

“We can have a good run at any of the trophies. I would not say the Arabian Gulf Cup is our best chance at silverware, we have a good chance in all four still.”

Monday’s result was less helpful for Wasl, who now need to defeat already-eliminated Al Ain in Friday’s final round and hope Al Shabab do not beat Ajman.

“We now look towards the match between Ajman and Al Shabab,” Cheetahs boss Gabriel Calderon said. “We need something from this.

“Really, the competition is already finished for Ajman. But, I am confident in fair play and Ajman will try to take something from Shabab.”
