The Arabian Gulf League is not yet four-rounds old, but Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club coach Jose Luis Sierra is already feeling the heat ahead of Friday’s trip to dominant champions Al Ain.

Last week’s 2-1 reversal at resurgent Sharjah was the second in the former Al Ittihad tactician’s opening three top-flight matches. This represents a disappointing early return to an extensive summer refit that also featured FC Dallas playmaker Mauro Diaz, Santos loanee Emiliano Vecchio, prolific Beijing Renhe centre forward Jaime Ayovi and Al Dhafra midfielder Abdullah Al Naqbi.

This fitful start is in contrast to their hosts. The top flight and President’s Cup double winners are one of only three teams with a perfect record.

“We are looking for a positive outcome,” said Sierra.

“Al Ain is ahead of us in the table and we must keep up with the leading teams.

“I know very well that Al Ain will enter the game with great strength in an effort to continue the series of victories. This increases the importance of the meeting.”

Al Ain have made light of the protracted summer defection of talisman Omar Abdulrahman to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal and an ongoing dispute with the UAE about player preparation.

Coach Zoran Mamic has told his all-conquering troops to maintain their high standards.

He said: “Winning is the slogan of the team in all competitions.

“Our task against Shabab Al Ahli isn’t easy. Personally, I know that all the players know what is required of them.”

Whites playmaker Rayan Yaslam is pushing for a start. He was a late substitute in last Friday’s 3-0 demolition of ex-Spain striker Alvaro Negredo’s Al Nasr.
