Ibrahima Toure has apologised to Bani Yas defender Mohamed Jaber for his violent attack on Monday night but has been “suspended until further notice” by Al Nasr.

Toure, 28, struck the defender from behind in the 70th-minute of the 1-1 draw at the start of the Arabian Gulf League season, forcing his victim off the pitch with blood streaming from a facial wound.

The Senegal international was given a red card, with the UAE Football Association Disciplinary Committee set to meet on Wednesday to discuss whether the mandatory two-match suspension should be extended.

Toure has since expressed his regret for the assault on social media site Instagram.

“Sorry Mohamed, sorry sorry, sorry for everybody,” the former Monaco marksman said.

Jaber replied to Toure's message to accept his apology, writing: "It's ok, this is just a game and you are a big player."

The Blue Wave board of directors are to meet at 18:00 on Wednesday to further discuss the matter, with serious repurcussions already meted out to the player who scored 16 top-flight goals last term.

“We do not accept such things at Al Nasr,” said board member Fahad Hadi.

“The decision has already been made that Toure will be suspended internally until further notice.

“We appreciate that Toure has already apologised to the player, and our chairman [His Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum] has given a similar message to Mohamed Jaber.

“We did not like what we saw at Bani Yas from Toure.”
