Ajman tie up deal for Al Arabi’s Algeria ace

Ajman have bolstered their side with the signing of creative Algeria midfielder Karim Ziani on a free transfer.

Ziani, 31, has joined the Arabian Gulf League club on a one-year contract with the option for a renewal after agreeing to the termination of his deal with Qatari Stars League outfit Al Arabi.

Previously, the experienced France-born player represented Troyes, Lorient and Sochaux in his homeland before enduring a frustrating spell with German side Wolfsburg after a €10 million (Dh49.3m) move in 2009.

Ziani has gained 62 caps for Algeria, representing the North African nation at the 2010 World Cup and 2004 and 2011 Africa Cup of Nations.

He replaces Ivory Coast winger Bakari Kone, with the Orange Brigade deciding not to continue with the 32-year-old despite his five goals in nine top-flight appearances upon joining in February.

Ajman finished a distant 10th in the AGL last term, and will begin the new campaign at home to Al Jazira on Monday, September 15.
