Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan will join up with the rest of his Al Ain team-mates tomorrow after the club ended their two-week training camp in Italy with a 2-1 friendly victory against English League One side Barnsley.

The 28-year-old has endured a painful recuperation in his homeland following his impressive two-goal spell at the World Cup, with a jet ski accident leading to the disappearance of musician Castro.

That tragedy even led to a Ghanaian lawyer calling on Gyan's arrest for questioning over the incident.

Gyan and veteran midfielder Helal Saeed will meet up with the rest of the squad, who return to the Middle East today from their Montecatini Terme base.

Forward Jires Kembo Ekoko excelled in Italy, his brace against the Yorkshire outfit yesterday adding further weight to coach Zlatko Dalic’s decision to bring him back into the fold after being jettisoned on loan to Qataris El Jaish last term.

“All team players and members of the mission of Al Ain hail the return of the player and his skills which appeared during the camp,” board member Mohammed bin Bdoua said of the ex-France youth international. “We hope that Kembo adds desire for the team.”

Friendlies with Al Kuwait SC on Wednesday and Saudi’s Al Nasr on Friday lie ahead, before Al Ain depart for another European tour in Austria on July 31.
