Ghanaian lawyer calls for arrest of Al Ain’s Gyan over Jet Ski accident

Ghanaian lawyer Maurice Ampaw has launched a remarkable tirade at Asamoah Gyan, calling for the Al Ain striker to be arrested over the Jet Ski accident that led to the disappearance of musician Castro.

Gyan was with Castro – real name Theophilus Tagoe – and a female friend on holiday at Volta Lake when the accident took place two weeks ago.

The Ghana forward, who captained his nation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, spoke of his sorrow following the accident, saying: “I’m okay but I’m deeply sad for losing one of my best friends.”

However, lawyer Ampaw has called for Gyan’s arrest, for what he controversially claims is interference into the investigation.

“If Ghana were a serious nation, we wouldn’t have allowed Marine Police to go and have fun on the sea, with the intention of searching for Castro’s body,” Ampaw told local radio.

“Then Asamoah Gyan also picked a boat saying he was going to search for Castro. This would not happen in a serious country.

“Castro is a celebrity, a star, anybody who was involved should be arrested to enable the person write their statement,” he added. “We are in a country [where] people do not know their rights and that is why they are walking free.

“I am therefore calling for the arrest of Asamoah Gyan and anybody who went with Castro to Ada.

“They should arrest them and be given police enquiry bail, for the investigation to be carried out.”

Gyan has delayed the start of his pre-season with Al Ain due to the accident and until Castro is found.

Al Ain will begin their competitive season on August 19 when they take on Saudi club Al Ittihad in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League.
