Neto Berola has revealed the presence of new coach Jorginho at Al Wasl convinced him to join the club.

Brazilian striker, Berola, signed a one-year deal at the Zabeel Stadium on Monday night having agreed to move to the Arabian Gulf League club from Atletico Mineiro in his homeland.

The 26-year-old arrives in the UAE following four years with the Belo Horizonte side, although he had slipped down the pecking order over the last year with Brazil international Jo among their other forward options.

He therefore jumped at the offer of first-team football from a coach he describes as an idol back in the South American country.

“I am looking forward to play my first match with my new team,” he said.

“The reason I came to join the Cheetahs here was the presence of one of Brazilian football’s legends, coach Jorginho, in addition to the popularity of Al Wasl team.

“I also liked to have a new experience outside of Brazil, so I’ll try to adapt quickly with my new team.”

Beginning his reign as coach on Sunday, Jorginho had admitted his desire to bolster the club’s foreign ranks as he bids to bring the league title to the Zabeels Stadium for the first time since 2007.

The squad the World Cup winner inherited already includes Ricardo Oliveira, Edson Puch and Emmanuel Culio – meaning at least one of that trio will now be heading for the exit.
