Walter Zenga has left Al Jazira after just seven months in charge, just one day after the club were knocked out of the AFC Champions League by domestic rivals Al Ain.

The club made the announcement through their official Twitter account, declaring: “It's official Walter Zenga leaves Al Jazira FC as Head Coach!”

Jazira then went on to thank Zenga for his efforts after leading the club to a third place in the Arabian Gulf League, meaning they will once again be competing in the Champions League next season.

“We would like to state our thanks to Mr. Zenga for all efforts during his time with us. We wish him great success in his managerial career,” Jazira stated on Twitter.

The former Italian goalkeeper also led Jazira to the final of the Arabian Gulf Club Cup were they were defeated by Al Ahli.

The Red Knights had taken the lead an Ali Mabkhout penalty but goals from Grafite and Ismail Al Hamadi eventually secured another piece of silverware for the all-conquering Al Ahli.

Zenga had succeeded Luis Milla as head coach in October last year and went on to win 15 of 35 matches across all competitions, but his 20-month contract has now been cancelled.

Jazira also confirmed that they would not be renewing the contract of midfielder Hyung Min Shin, therefore freeing up space for another foreign player.

“It's official Al Jazira FC not to renew the contract of the South Korean player Hyung Min Shin – Shin's contract expires in July 2014.”
