Al Ain’s Sanchez Flores remain in charge – for now

Quique Sanchez Flores remains in the dark about his Al Ain future but will be in the dugout as the Boss host Lekhwiya on Wednesday night.

Reports on Monday had suggested the club were close to agreeing a deal with former Al Hilal coach Zlatko Dalic but Sport360° understands that neither the Spaniard nor his agent have been contacted by anyone at the Garden City club about his future.

Sanchez Flores, who has 18 months left on his contract and only joined the club on September 23, took training at the Khalifa International Stadium again on Monday night and is scheduled to appear at the pre-match press conference for the Lekhwiya game.

With their AFC Champions League campaign starting on Wednesday there does not seem to be time to bring in a new coach, although whether he remains in charge for the trip to Al Ittihad in a fortnight’s time could very much depend on the outcome at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.

And with the Arabian Gulf League on a break until March 21, and with the Boss not involved in the final round of UAE League Cup action next week, a new coach would have time to bed in before Al Ain travel to Saudi Arabia on March 12.
