Injured Al Wahda midfielder Marco Estrada will return to Chile today (Thursday) and could be set for a recall to the national team in time for this summer’s World Cup.

Estrada, 30, has not played for La Roja for over two years but Wahda revealed on Wednesday they had received a letter from the Chilean Football Federation requesting his release.

The midfielder is currently recovering from knee surgery and is expected to be out of action for another two months but will head back to South America today to continue his rehabilitation with the national team, and could feature for his country in Brazil.

Estrada’s replacement, Moroccan international Adil Hermach, arrived last month and the former Montpellier man is not expected back in Abu Dhabi until the summer.

Meanwhile, fifth-placed Wahda will attempt to close the gap on the top four when they host Sharjah at the Al Nahyan Stadium on Friday night.
