The Pride of Abu Dhabi are supposed to remain keen on landing another foreign signing this summer. Widespread rumours in Europe stated they were beaten by Premier League new boys Burnley to the signing of Anderlecht’s Steven Defour on Friday.

This blow has seen them shift focus to Frenchman Trebel, reports Belgian regional newspaper Het
Belang van Limburg.

The 25-year-old has performed a key role for Les Rouches since he joined them from Nantes two years ago, scoring three goals in 63 Jupiler Pro League appearances.

Jazira are attempting to improve on last term’s disappointing seventh-placed finish in the Arabian Gulf League. They have brought in Morocco playmaker Mbark Boussoufa on a free transfer after his contract expired at Lokomotiv Moscow, with UAE right-back Mohammed Fawzi being attracted from Al Ain plus centre midfielders Salem Abdulla and Humaid Ahmed from Al Wasl and Fujairah.

Meanwhile, UAE stalwart Luis Jimenez emerged to haunt Al Wasl as he scored during a 2-1 friendly win for new side Al Arabi of the Qatar Stars League.

The ex-Al Ahli and Al Nasr playmaker equalised Humaid Abbas’ penalty during Saturday’s friendly, with Brazilian midfielder Alan Souza sealing the victory.
