Al Wahda boss Jose Peseiro told league leaders Al Ahli they were lucky to leave Abu Dhabi with a point on Friday night.

The Red Knights were held to a goalless draw at the Al Nahyan Stadium, but it was hosts Wahda who had the better chances to win the match.

Striker Sebastien Tagliabue missed two great opportunities, but Portuguese coach Peseiro was still delighted with his side.

“In the second half we played much better,” he said. “We commanded the second half.

“We knew before the match that they are a good and strong team, very quick and is dangerous on setpieces. But we did very well in the set-pieces and we created some opportunities to win the match.

“We played well enough to beat Al Ahli today because we fought well against their players. We didn’t win but I can praise the effort of my players.”

Al Ahli No2 Catalin Raducan admitted they were not at their best.

“We didn’t play our normal game,” he said. “They (Al Wahda) played a good game. It was a very tactical match. They closed us and didn’t give us too many chances.”
