The South Korean defender was a vital part of a Red Knights squad that wrestled the 2015/16 Arabian Gulf League title away from Al Ain, highlighted by his inclusion in the Best XI at the league’s awards evening last month.

Kwon, 24, arrived at Rashid Stadium in 2015’s winter transfer window and also went on to play a huge role in the club’s journey to the AFC Champions League final.

He was joined by teammates Everton Ribeiro, Khamis Esmail, Majed Hassan and Majed Nasser in the Best XI and admits he has no burning desire to leave just yet.

“I have a big dream. I have a dream to play in Europe but at the moment, I want to do my best where I am at Al Ahli because the team wants me and I like the team too,” said the former Jeonbuk Hyundai centre-back.

“And my dream is also to be in a team that wants me.

“I didn’t earn it (Best XI inclusion) myself. It was also down to the team so I want to give credit to the team and my team-mates.”

Despite winning the league this season, losing to Guangzhou Evergrande in the Champions League final and Al Jazira in the President’s Cup final is something Kwon wants to rectify next season.

“We won the league this year but we have more to achieve, like the Asian Champions League and the President’s Cup,” he said.

“Every competition and every game is obviously very important. Every game I’m going for the win.”
