Reigning champions Al Ain lost further touch with Al Ahli as they were held 1-1 at home by Sharjah.

Yousif Saeed gave Sharjah a shock lead at the Tahnon bin Mohamed Stadium before Asamoah Gyan (above) equalised 16 minutes later for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Al Shaab lifted themselves off the bottom of the league with a 2-1 comeback win over Dubai.

Rami Yaslam’s free kick put Dubai ahead but late goals from Michael Laurent N’dri and Quirinho delivered Shaab only their second win of the season.

Al Wasl were unable to follow up last weekend’s win over Al Ahli with victory as they were defeated 2-1 by Emirates thanks to Luis Da Silva Alves’ last-minute winner.
