After sneaking into the knockout stages, Vietnam edged their Asian Cup 2019 round of 16 tie with Jordan via a penalty shootout on Sunday.

The Golden Dragons were the last team to progress from the group stages but have become the first to reach the quarter-finals.

After extra-time finished at 1-1 in Dubai, Vietnam won 4-2 on penalties after Baha Faisal and Ahmed Samir missed for Jordan.

Jordan opened the scoring six minutes before half-time when Baha Abdel-Rahman found the back of the net from a free kick.

Vietnam then drew level early in the second period as Cong Phuong volleyed home from close range.

In the shootout, BT Dung scored the decisive penalty to eliminate Jordan.
