Ex-Barcelona star Rivaldo leaves Angolan club

10:02 04/12/2013

Former World Footballer of the Year, Rivaldo, has left Angolan top-flight side Kabuscorp after completing a short-term contract with the club.

The 2002 World Cup winner joined the club in a shock deal back in January but has not chosen to extend his stay in the African country after only helping Kabuscorp to a fourth place finish in the league.

The veteran Brazilian  hit 11 goals in 21 league outings for the Luanda-based club, who finished the season 16 points adrift of champions Libolo.

“(It’s the) day to say goodbye to Angola but only for football because Angola will be a home forever,” the former Barcelona and AC Milan star wrote on Twitter.

“This was a positive year in my career and although we came fourth in the Angolan Girabola league, I was the third best scorer,” he added on his website www.rivaldo10.com.br.

It unknown whether Rivaldo, now 40, will now decide to hang up his boots after a stellar career that saw him crowned World and European Footballer of the Year in 1999 during his time at Barcelona before he went on to lift the Champions League trophy with Milan in 2003.
