West Ham ‘agree’ loan deal for Liverpool’s Andy Carroll

05:47 04/12/2013

Andy Carroll’s ill-fated spell at Liverpool looks to be at an end, albeit temporarily, amid reports he has agreed a season-long loan with West Ham United.

The 24-year-old will join the Hammers in an initial deal worth £2million (Dh11.5m) with the East London club retaining the option of making the move permanent should he impress for £17million (Dh98m).

The move will see Carroll, who scored just 11 goals in 56 appearances for Liverpool following his club-record £35million move in January 2011, link up with his former boss at Newcastle Sam Allardyce and close friend Kevin Nolan.

The writing had been on the wall for the England international since Brendan Rodgers’ arrival as boss earlier this summer given the Northern Irishman’s devotion to passing football.

Carroll had been linked with a return to Newcastle while Italian giants AC Milan were also said to be interested in the powerful forward, but the lure of spearheading West Ham’s return to the top-flight has proved too good to turn down.

Carroll’s imminent move to the capital comes just days after Rodgers had ruled out a loan move for the club’s record signing. “To consider a loan period for someone the club spent £35million on isn’t something we’re looking to do at this moment in time,” he said earlier this month.
