Higuain urges Modric to ditch Tottenham for Real Madrid

05:39 04/12/2013

Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain has urged Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric to join the Spaniah champions and he hopes the deal can be completed as soon as possible.

Modric appears destined to leave White Hart Lane this summer in search of Champions League football with new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas admitting as much when recently quizzed on the Croatian’s future.

There are a number of clubs interested in the 26-year-old, including Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea, although Real Madrid are widely considered to be the frontrunners for his signature.

A number of former players have urged Modric to join the Madrid giants, including former Croatia internationals Davor Suker and Robert Jarni.

But Higuain is the first current Madrid star to publicly back his club’s pursuit of Modric.

“I saw Modric at the European Championship and also at Tottenham,” the Argentina forward said at a press conference.

“He’s a player that likes the club and us. Hopefully he’ll sign as quickly as possible for the good of the team.”

Van Der Vaart

In better news for Tottenham fans, midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart has stated he is committed to the cause after publicly backing Villas-Boas.

The Dutch star has been linked with a move back to Germany with former club Wolfsburg, but he insisted: “My place is at Spurs, I want to win the title with this club. Each summer my name appears in the transfer market.

“The race for the top four will be a total war from the very first day.”

He added: “The new coach has good plans for me and this is important.

“I have heard excellent reports about AVB.

“We have very good attacking options and if AVB imposes an offensive system the team could be a real spectacle.”
