Representatives from Healthpoint Hospital, located in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi, returned from a week-long knowledge exchange programme at City Football Academy, the medical and training facility of Manchester City Football Club. Healthpoint Hospital is the Club’s Regional Healthcare Partner in the GCC.

Dr. Mai Al Jaber, Deputy Medical Director and Head of Public Health and the Women’s Wellness Initiative at Healthpoint, and Azzam Kamal, Head of Physiotherapy – Orthopedics Unit, were selected to participate in this internship, one component of the three-year partnership.

Dr. Al Jaber and Mr. Kamal were embedded into City’s medical team in order to understand their clinical and administrative roles.

They worked with a range of practitioners to learn more about year-long preventative screening, nutritional, isokinetic and fitness programs for athletes at the Academy.

They also observed game-day treatment of Manchester City's first-team players during their match against Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium on October 28 (below).

“The clinical internship program between Healthpoint Hospital and Manchester City Football Club is the first in a series of initiatives to facilitate knowledge transfer between our sports medicine teams, the very heart of our three-year partnership,” said Dr. Al Jaber.

“This collaboration helps us in continually innovating and delivering the highest standard of care to our Healthpoint’s patients, reducing their need to travel outside of the UAE for world-class treatment.”

In addition to this programme, Healthpoint Hospital and Manchester City will collaborate on hosting a joint Sports Medicine Congress in 2016 as well as joint research activities concentrated on sports injuries prevention and rehabilitation.

City's first-team doctor, Max Sala, said: “We have been delighted to host our partners from Healthpoint at the City Football Academy and enjoyed sharing knowledge over the past week. We look forward to welcoming them back for future programs.”
