Is Barcelona’s Lionel Messi an Al Wasl fan?

04:44 04/12/2013

Al Wasl’s standing in the world game continues to rise. With Diego Maradona enjoying his time in “paradise” as boss the Zabeel Stadium, the UAE Pro League side can maybe even count the game’s greatest ever player among their growing legion of fans.

And while the chances of seeing Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi strut his stuff in Emirates are fanciful in the extreme, the Argentine genius has not been shy in pinning the colours of his favourite team to the mast.

Kudos to @Mo7mad995 for finding this fantastic picture of the smiling 24-year-old posing proudly with a Wasl shirt with Messi #10 on the back. Enough to make any fan drool at the prospect of him weaving his magic in the UAE.

The shot is believed to have been taken a year ago following Wasl’s appointment of Barca’s youth coach Albert Benaiges, the man responsible for nurturing the likes of Messi, Cesc Fabregas and Gerard Pique.
