Sport360’s Fantasy Football (FPL) Tips: Cheap midfield maestros

Each week, Sport360 will bring you tips for the English Premier League's official fantasy football game. Fancy pitting your wits against us? Join the "Sport360 Fans'" league using the code 482230-120638.

This week Sport360's self-confessed fantasy football geek, Scott Grayston, analyses midfielders that are a cheap price for how much they get forward and provide an attacking threat.

Players that are playing more advanced than their value suggests:

MF – Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham) – 5.5m – Selected by 2.3%

Kouyate is being used in attacking midfield for the Hammers as Mark Noble holds and new signing, Dimitri Payet has a free role. For 5.5m, that is a great price for a player that has already scored and set one up in his first two matches. Kouyate is a excellent in the air and will be a danger from all set-pieces as well as his late runs into the box.

MF – Jefferson Montero (Swansea) – 6.0m – Selected by 2.0%

Montero is slowly becoming one of the trickiest wingers in the league. He made Branislav Ivanovic look distinctly average and slow in their opening day draw and Daryl Janmaat preferred to take an early bath then mark him last weekend. He got an assist in Swansea’s win against the Magpies, expect an abundance of these this season.

MF – Ross Barkley (Everton) – 6.6m – Selected by 10.5%

It’s scary how much potential the young Evertonian has and it’s pleasing seeing him in top form like he is at the moment. The 21-year-old has netted in both his first matches and he could have easily had more. If he can stay fit and injury-free, the England international should get over 10 goals this season.

MF – Andre Ayew (Swansea) – 7.1m – Selected by 10.4%

Andre Ayew is playing just off Gomis so when Montero runs towards the touchline, Ayew’s aerial ability can be a real nuisance because it’s phenomenal for a small guy. He has started the season off brilliantly, scoring two in two. If Swansea stick to the same system, which they definitely should, Ayew will be a player that everybody wants in their team. After all, he did turn down Roma and Atletico to come to Swansea. You’ve got to be pretty handy to be wanted by these sides.

MF – Wes Hoolahan (Norwich) – 5.0m – Selected by 1.6%

Hoolahan has started the season terrifically for the newly-promoted Norwich, setting three goals up in their opening two games. The Ireland international is playing attacking midfield with Cameron Jerome leading the line so he’s going to play an integral role in keeping his side’s Premier League status. Norwich manager Alex Neil said this about the 33-year-old in the Eastern Daily Press: “The older he has got in the last couple of years he has really kicked on as a player and his experience, quality and ball control are there for all to see. Technically, he is a fantastic little player.” It seems like the gaffer appreciates his skill just as much as Sport360.

Tip of the week:

Get Darren Randolph in goal

Adrian has to serve a three-match ban for his red card against Leicester City. That means he misses matches against the following:

Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (A)
Newcastle (H)

Darren Randolph who is valued at 4.5m has a strong chance of keeping one, if not two clean sheets in their home matches. Newcastle looked weak against Swansea and Bournemouth are yet to score this season.
